Building Design / Energy Conservation Engineering 10 PDH Package

Course No. BD-10004

Credit: 10 PDH   Make it 11 PDH: Get our FREE ethics course when you Refer a PE

Course Fee: $199 - a savings of up to 38%*

Purchase this course

Overview

This package has been specially designed by PDHengineer.com to provide 10 PDH at a highly discounted price. And, if you Refer a PE, you can get a FREE 1 PDH Ethics course as well. You could save up to 38% on PDH credits guaranteed to be accepted by your state board.

The package consists of two of our most popular Building Design / Energy Conservation Engineering courses in one easy-to-complete package that will earn 10 PDH.

Course 1 - Energy Savings in Building Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing Systems (7 PDH)

In today’s building industry, the concept of integrated sustainable design has taken root and is branching out into full blossom. Green is in. Green is considered the responsible way to design. Integrated design is a process whereby the various disciplines involved in design—architect, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, interior design professional, etc. —work together to come up with design solutions that maximize performance, energy conservation, and environmental benefits.

In this course the student will learn a wide variety of integrated sustainable concepts and practical ideas for building electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems, from design to facility operation, that will help with the integration of the various systems within the building. Although the reference text discusses Federal Facilities, the principles apply to all building types.

The student is expected to read and review the material contained in the Greening of Federal Facilities – Second Edition, May 2001 (Part V – Energy Systems).

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of forty five (45) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Energy and Conservation Issues
  • HVAC Systems: Boilers, Air Distribution Systems, Chillers, Absorption Cooling
  • Desiccant Dehumidification
  • Ground-Source Heat Pumps
  • HVAC Technologies to Consider
  • Water Heating: Heat-Recovery Water Heating, Solar Water Heating
  • Lighting: Fluorescent Lighting, Electronic Ballasts, Lighting Controls, Exterior Lighting
  • Office, Food Service, and Laundry Equipment
  • Energy Management
  • Electric Motors and Drives: High-Efficiency Drives, Variable-Frequency Motors, Power Factors

Course 2 - Green Roofs (3 PDH)

Because of their many energy-saving and environmental benefits, green roofs are a promising technology for energy- efficient buildings. In a green roof, a layer of vegetation covers the surface of a roof to provide shade, cool indoor and outdoor temperatures, provide storm water management, and more.

In this course the student will learn about the benefits of green roofs, estimated savings and market potential of green roofs, technology performance of green roofs, and warranties, standards and codes related to green roofs.

The student is expected to read and review the material contained in Green Roofs, DOE/EE-0298.

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of fifteen (15) questions at the end of the course to obtain PDH credits.
