Building Security Initiatives: Energy
Savings and Trade-offs
Steven G. Liescheidt, P.E., CSI-CCS, CCPR.
Overview
Since September 2001, most public agencies and
many private firms have focused (or sometimes re-focused) attention on security
issues, especially in high-visibility public gathering places and government
workplaces. For DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (DOE/EERE),
this new focus on security may create both opportunities and challenges for its
primary mission to advance the use of energy-efficient and renewable energy
technologies.
In this course the student will learn that there
are times when the security improvements can also provide energy savings
improvements in the HVAC systems and other times when there will be trade-offs.
The principles and discussions in this course apply to both government and
private facilities.
The student is expected to read and review the material contained in the
Securing Buildings and Saving Energy: Opportunities in the Federal Sector, U.S.
DOE Contract No. DE-AC03-76SF0098
The
student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions at
the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
