Indoor Environmental
Quality
Steven G. Liescheidt, P.E., CSI-CCS, CCPR.
Overview
Indoor air quality (IAQ) problems can be caused
(or avoided) at virtually any stage in the design, construction, and operation
of any facility. During building design, such issues as roof overhangs (to keep
out rain), location of outside air inlet ports, glazing specifications (relative
to potential condensation and mold growth), formaldehyde content of cabinetry,
and entryway design to hold down tracked in pollutants all can influence IAQ.
In addition to IAQ, there are other conditions
that can adversely impact the quality of building occupants' environment.
This course covers indoor environmental quality issues, including IAQ, noise
control, soil gases and biological contaminants.. Simple measures are
discussed to help mitigate indoor environmental quality problems, which can
impact workers' health and decrease worker productivity.
The student is expected to read and review the material contained
in the Greening of Federal Facilities – Second Edition, May 2001 (Part VIII –
Indoor Environmental Quality).
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions
at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
