Overview

This four-hour course is a review of how solar water heating systems work and the components that constitute a solar water heating system. The course discusses the types of systems, the characteristics of solar radiation, the types of collectors and the balance of system equipment. In addition there is a section on how to calculate the size of a system and an overview of the design process for a solar water heating installation.

To receive PDH credit, the reader must score 70% or higher on a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty-five (25) questions at the end of the course.

 

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Understand the characteristics of solar radiation
  • Know the types of solar water heating systems
  • Understand the different types of solar collectors used
  • Know how to calculate the hot water demand of a residential application
  • Understand the basics of sizing a solar water heating system
