Overview
This is an intermediate course in programming using the Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition that is appropriate for all engineers. No prior knowledge of Visual Basic is needed. It is not necessary that you have to have completed the Introduction to Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition for Engineers course as the concepts covered in the Introduction course are reviewed in this course.
Advanced Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition for Engineers goes beyond introductory level training and covers many advanced features of the Visual Basic language. The course will familiarize you with the IDE and will explain some of the files used in a project. In the course, you will create several projects using three basic steps: (1) create the GUI, (2) set properties, and (3) write code.
We will use controls from the tool box of the IDE for input, output, and displaying information or to raise an event. Additionally, we will write event procedures, set properties, and use methods and functions. You will become familiar with name spaces and their associated classes, which may include constructors, fields, methods, properties and events.
Finally, in addition to working with several sort routines, users will create a web browser.
It is suggested that the student download the free version of Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition from the Microsoft website at:
http://www.microsoft.com/Express/Download
To receive PDH credit, the student must take a multiple choice quiz of twenty (20) questions.
