Overview

Effective communication skills are essential to your professional development.  This course provides engineers with the tools necessary to write effective specifications, reports, letters, contracts and other documentation required in an engineer's professional practice.  Patent writing, video-script writing and copyrighting are also covered.

 

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty-five (25) questions at the end of the course to obtain PDH credits.

 

Specific Knowledge or Skill Attained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills: 

  • Language simplification

  • Writing status reports, progress reports, project crisis reports, and end of project reports

  • Creating test procedures and reports

  • Writing contracts

  • Writing project-related letters

  • Differences between Statement of Objectives, Design Objectives and Design Requirements

  • Video-script writing tips

  • Patent writing and record keeping

  • Copyrighting your material
