Concrete Mixture Optimization Using Statistical Methods

Course No. C-4034

Credit: 4 PDH

Course Fee: $115.80 Purchase course

Subject Matter Expert: Vincent D. Reynolds, M.B.A., P.E.

Overview

The mixture of concrete plays an important part in the strength and durability of concrete. This course explores the feasibility of using statistical experimental design and analysis to optimize concrete mixtures. Different methods are covered that include several variables, such as concrete composition and properties, such as slump and strength.

After reading this 4 hour course the student will have valuable information that can be used to optimize concrete mixtures using statistical methods. This material should be studied by those working in structures, materials testing, or anyone that wishes to learn more information regarding concrete mixture optimization using statistical methods.

The course materials are based solely on the materials “Concrete Mixture Optimization Using Statistical Methods” as published by the Federal Highway Administration.

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • The properties that affects the performance of fresh concrete
  • The use of ANOVA in optimizing concrete mixture
  • The effect of aggregates, silica and water on concrete strength
  • The differences between numerical and graphical optimization
  • They types of desirability values used in statistical methods
  • Statistical design methods used to optimize concrete mixtures
  • The use of the Root Mean Square in standard deviation.
