Overview
This course covers basic concepts of Wastewater Treatment including the historical background, The Clean Water Act, the need for and goals of wastewater collection and treatment, types of wastewater treatment systems, unit processes, and definitions of terms used in the industry. This course is intended to be a basic course for civil and environmental engineers to facilitate further study. This course would also be valuable for individuals in other fields such as planning, financing, and management. This is an introductory course and the student is not required to have any other basic or general knowledge of the course material.
The student must take
a quiz consisting of ten (10) questions in order to receive PDH credit.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Attained
This
course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Requirements of the Clean Water Act
- Effects of wastewater on water quality in rivers and
streams
- Collection of wastewater - combined systems and separate systems
- Pollutants in wastewater
- Basic wastewater treatment processes
- Secondary and advanced treatment processes
- Use or disposal of residuals and biosolids
- Decentralized Systems
- Common terms used in wastewater treatment
