Overview

Every engineering project includes an element of planning and design. The Corps of Engineers has a specific vocabulary and set of procedures for planning and design of coastal projects that includes technical and economic considerations. This course provides a quick and easy summary of the planning and review process for coastal engineering projects.

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Define and describe the 6 major planning steps used by the US Army Corps of Engineers for coastal projects
  • Understand how risk analysis is applied to project optimization
  • Have an overview of the design, construction and monitoring process
  • Recognize the components of the basic design criteria
