Rigid Pavements Spall and Crack Repair Using
Epoxy Resin Products
Aleksander Andrzejewski, P.E.
Overview
Rigid pavement is a part of life for society. Its uses for both vehicular and
aircraft traffic have provided significant impacts to the growth of our
society. No matter how well the installation was accomplished, over time it
will deteriorate due to the traffic and weather. Some of the common
deteriorations are cracking and spalling.
Given the heavy volume of use of pavements, rapid repair methods are required
which provide both timely and permanent repairs. This can be fairly easily
accomplished through the use of epoxy resin products. Epoxy resins provide an
expedient method of repairing pavement while minimizing the impact to traffic
disruption. Often, the pavement can be restored to allow traffic use
within twenty four hours.
This course will provide you, as the engineer, design considerations and an
insight into the safe and effective uses of epoxy resin grout, mortars and
concrete in the repair of seven common spall and crack situations found in rigid
pavements on roads and airfields.
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions
at the end of the course to obtain PDH credits.
