How To Design and Build a One Transistor Common Emitter Amplifier

Course No. E-3024

Credit: 3 PDH

Course Fee: $86.85 Purchase course

Subject Matter Expert: Robert J. Scoff, P.E.

Overview

This paper was written with the intention of showing transistors operate in a practical manner. Very little attention is paid to the holes and electrons and what happens at the basic physics level. Instead, a practical model is built showing what a transistor does when it is used in a simple amplifier circuit. A basic knowledge of Ohm’s Law is helpful, but not necessary. What is needed to understand how this amplifier works is given as it is needed. Voltage, current, and power gains are covered. A way to find the DC operating points of a simple transistor circuit is shown. Frequency response is covered, as well as phase shift and decibel gain.

This course was designed for electrical engineers as well as engineers of other disciplines. There is very little math involved in the doing of this course. The understanding of basic algebra is all that is necessary.

To earn credit for this course, you must pass a multiple choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions.
