Introduction to Outdoor Electrical Safety

Course No. E-1010

Credit: 1 PDH

Course Fee: $28.95 Purchase course

Subject Matter Expert: Clint McCann, P.E.

Overview

Studied and experimented with for centuries, electricity only began to be widely harnessed for performing useful industrial and residential tasks in the late 19th century. Over a century later, modern societies have come to depend upon its availability and versatility to power lights, appliances, tools, machinery, transportation vehicles, communications, and the list goes on. Electricity is relatively inexpensive, readily available, and simple to control. People have become comfortable with its use. But it is this comfort level that often leads individuals to overlook or ignore the dangers associated with electricity, especially in outdoor environments. This course introduces students to safety devices designed to make the use of outdoor electrical tools, appliances, etc. safer.

In this course, students will review the booklet entitled “Outdoor Electrical Safety Check”, copyrighted and published by ESFi (Electrical Safety Foundation International). This publication introduces electrical safety devices that, if properly utilized and carefully maintained, can provide protection from or prevention of outdoor electrical hazards. Please note, that ESFi is a non-profit organization and the contents of the booklet are in no way meant to endorse a particular product.

This course is useful for engineers, managers, tradesmen, and anyone else who has occasion to use electrical tools, accessories, or appliances in an outdoor environment. The course is relevant to multiple industries and trades and even to homeowners.

Students are required to pass a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten questions at the end of the course to earn PDH credit.
