Overview
This package has been specially designed by PDHengineer.com to provide 10 PDH at a highly discounted price. And, if you Refer a PE, you can get a FREE 1 PDH Ethics course as well. You could save up to 38% on PDH credits guaranteed to be accepted by your state board.
The package consists of three of our most popular Environmental / Waste Management Engineering courses in one easy-to-complete package that will earn 10 PDH.
Course 1 - Small Solid Waste Incinerators (2 PDH)
Incinerators for destruction of solid waste are a difficult class of incinerators to design and operate, primarily because of the nature of the waste material. Solid waste can vary widely in composition and physical characteristics, making the effects of feed rates and parameters of destruction very difficult to predict. Solid waste incinerators most often burn wastes over a range of low and high heat values, i.e., from wet garbage with an as-received heat value below 2,500 Btu/lb (1,390 kc/kg), to plastic wastes, over 19,000 Btu/lb (10,500 kc/kg). Materials handling, firing, and residue removal equipment are more critical, cumbersome, expensive, and difficult to control with solid waste incinerators than with other types of incinerators.
This course covers small on-site solid waste incinerators. These are used for waste disposal located on-site where these wastes are generated. This would include a business, a factory, a school, an apartment complex, etc. They are generally factory built, normally “off the shelf” equipment. The use of on-site incineration precludes the need for waste transportation, and the costs associated with such trucking and other hauling procedures.
To receive PDH credit for this course, the user must pass a quiz consisting of twenty (20) multiple-choice questions.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The various types of incineration systems used for on-site solid waste disposal
- Advantages and disadvantages of different on-site incineration systems and the factors involved in making a choice of systems
- The basic dimensions and criteria for on-site incineration systems
Course 2 - Thermal Treatment of Wastes (3 PDH)
Incineration can be an effective technology for the clean, efficient disposal of wastes. Related processes such as gasification, pyrolysis, plasma-arc and starved-air combustion have been proposed as alternatives to incineration whereas in most cases these processes are incineration process under a different name. This course defines incineration and these other thermal treatment technologies, presents critical features in the design and operation of each of them, and clarifies the true differences between each of them.
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of thirty (30) questions at the end of the course to obtain PDH credits.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Be able to classify a thermal treatment process as incineration or non-incineration
- Be knowledgeable in the proper definition and classification of systems and processes for the thermal treatment and disposal of wastes
- Be familiar with advantages and disadvantages of the various thermal treatment processes used for waste disposal
Course 3 - Rotary Kiln Incineration Systems (5 PDH)
The rotary kiln furnace system is widely used for the incineration of industrial and other waste streams. This course presents the basic features of the rotary kiln incinerator and examples of its application for waste disposal.
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of fifty (50) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Rotary kiln incineration system, its characteristics, application, advantages and disadvantages
- Types of rotary kiln incineration systems designs and the appropriate application for each of them
- How to size a rotary kiln incineration system
