Overview
One of the most interesting and challenging areas of moral reasoning is deciding where to draw the line between what is permissible and impermissible. The discussion becomes more interesting when we accept that there is sometimes no distinct line between the two. Rather than a choice of black or white, many times the answer is a shade of gray.
While it may be interesting material for discussion, this type of ethical decision is often reality for professional engineers. It has been said that often the first ethical choice a young engineer may face on his job is the decision whether it is acceptable and proper to accept a gift from a supplier who is courting his favor. How can a professional engineer efficiently judge right and wrong when it comes to acceptance of gifts and amenities from suppliers or others?
The course discusses the ethical side of such situations and presents several methods that you can use as a part your process to make ethical choices. You will be challenged to work through a series of situations and then to use these scenarios to understand the range of situations from right to wrong.
To receive PDH credit for this course, the student must pass a multiple choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions.
