Overview
Deep foundations in the form of drilled shafts and driven piles are used to sustain the axial and lateral force from structures such as roadway embankments, bridge footings, and building foundations, to name a few. This course will present to the engineer the Design of Deep Foundations.
This course will provide information on Deep Foundations, drilled shafts, driven piles, and the materials used for their construction, construction methods, and (QA \ QC) procedures. Several example problems will be discussed to aid the student in understanding the design requirements, as well as the various equations and solution as presented in the course materials. The student will learn how to determine design stresses, vertical soil stress, solve for lateral and vertical loads as well as other ancillary equations related to designing Deep Foundations.
After reading this 10 hour course the student will have valuable information that can be used to effectively design deep foundations.
The study materials for this course are based solely on the text “Deep Foundations” as published by the Unified Facilities Criteria and published by the US Army Corps of Engineers. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is written to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of fifty (50) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
