Laws, Rules and Ethics for New Mexico Engineers

Course No. L-2012

Credit: 2 PDH

Course Fee: $57.90 Purchase course

Subject Matter Expert: Edward P. Brunet, Jr., P.E.

This course can be used for continuing education credit only by engineers licensed in New Mexico. This course will not be accepted by other states as it is specific to New Mexico.

Overview

New Mexico engineers are regulated by the New Mexico State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors. The Board requires engineers to earn 30 PDH biennially prior to license renewal. A unique part of the New Mexico continuing education requirement is that 4 of the 30 required hours must be training on engineering ethics. This course will allow the PE licensed in New Mexico to earn 2 PDH to help meet the Board’s mandate.

How should an engineer handle a conflict of interest? What about a client who presents the engineer with a substantial gift as they are about to discuss safety standards for a project? Or, think about an engineer who delivers a quote for professional services to a purchasing agent along with tickets to the next big football game. These are just some of the real-life scenarios for which the New Mexico Rules of Professional Conduct offers advice.

The course covers the legal and ethical aspects of running an engineering practice in the state.

To receive PDH credit, the reader must pass a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions.
