Overview
This course will provide the Professional Engineer licensed in New York with a review of Article 145 of the New York Education Law, Part 68 of the Regulations of the Commissioner, and Part 29 of the Rules of the Board of Regents on unprofessional conduct. The course will also review some of the recent disciplinary actions taken by the New York Regents to enforce these laws, rules, and regulations. This knowledge, along with the basic ethics training provided, can be considered the basis for running a successful, ethical engineering practice.
To receive credit for this course, the student must pass a multiple-choice quiz consisting of fifteen (15) questions.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- The engineer’s duty to protect the public
- The engineer’s duty to make objective and truthful statements
- The engineer’s duty to limit practice to his or her field of competence
- The engineer’s duty to maintain client confidentiality
- The engineer’s responsibility to the profession
- Knowledge of how the Regents administer and enforce the New York Engineering laws, rules, and regulations
