Overview

Acoustics and noise have been proven to be factors that affect indoor environmental quality and work, as well as students' performance in a classroom. Although noise and sound are sometimes confused in definition and different factors affect individual hearing ability, the perception of noise and sound is the reality by which people function. Although acoustic considerations are not always evaluated in an as-installed condition, they are certainly important to the functioning of occupants in the space.

In this course the student will learn some of the basic acoustic considerations to take into account when selecting and specifying air devices and terminal units, no matter which manufacturer is used as basis-of-design.

The student is expected to read and review the material contained in the Titus Product Catalog Engineering Guidelines.

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Acoustical applications and factors related to air device and terminal units
  • Sound ratings of air device and terminal units
  • Understanding of manufacturers’ test and catalog data
  • Specification considerations for air device and terminal unit acoustical performance NC, RC, Sound Power, Sound Pressure principles
  • Industry standards related to air device and terminal units acoustics
