Overview
Bearings are truly a wonder of nature! They make life much easier for almost all human beings living on this planet. They can be found in the smallest electric motors to the largest pieces of mining equipment. Bearings operate so efficiently that they are sometimes referred to as being “anti-friction” devices. Life would be much harder without them.
Like most other highly engineered products, bearings have a very sophisticated and scientific side; however, they also have a very practical side that is a joy to read and learn about. It is this practical side that this course is devoted to. It is intended to reach a very wide audience whether it be the non-Mechanical Engineering type people who want to broaden their horizons, or the many Mechanical Engineers who want to expand their knowledge.
This course is written in an easy to read step-by-step fashion. It starts with text and an appropriate number of explanatory drawings devoted to the basics. These include purpose, description, operation, manufacture and types. A simple formula is used to calculate the expected life of each of a pair of bearings mounted in a simple setting. Other aspects such as installation, lubrication, and application follow with text and sketches. Finally, there are a number of drawings showing bearings in actual pieces of mechanical equipment with expert analysis explaining their usage.
To receive PDH credit, you must pass a multiple-choice quiz consisting of fifty (50) questions.
