Steven G. Liescheidt, P.E., CSI-CCS, CCPR.

Overview

With the advent of electric industry deregulation, environmental concerns, unease over energy security and other industry related issues, interest in combined heat and power (CHP) technologies has been growing among energy customers, regulators, legislators, and developers.  CHP is a specific form of distributed generation (DG), which refers to the strategic placement of electric power generating units at or near customer facilities to supply on-site energy needs.  The key advantage of CHP over Separate Heat and Power Production (SHP) is the energy savings realized by using rejected heat from on-site power generation as thermal energy for other processes.

In this course the student will learn about the basic CHP technologies including system advantages and disadvantages, application considerations, comparison of system features and benefits and other basic criteria by which to evaluate and apply CHP systems.

The student is expected to read and review the material contained in the Catalogue of CHP Technologies as published by the EPA Combined Heat and Power Partnership.

http://www.epa.gov/chp/project_resources/catalogue.htm

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of fifty (50) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
