Duct Design

Course No. M-2050

Credit:  2 PDH

Back to Mechanical Courses

Course Fee:  $57.90

Steven G. Liescheidt, P.E., CSI-CCS, CCPR.

Overview

Duct design is important in any HVAC system and must take into account a variety of factors including space, noise, energy cost and first cost of installations.  Deficiencies in duct design can result in systems that operate incorrectly and are expensive to operate.  An understanding of theory to practice of duct design is important for engineers who design duct systems.

In this course. the student will learn about duct design methods and considerations including the theory of the Bernoulli equation to the practical measurements of fitting loss coefficients.  In addition, the student will gain an understanding of friction losses, dynamic losses, head and pressure readings and ratings.

The student is expected to read and review the material contained in the ASHRAE Handbook – 2005 Fundamentals, Chapter 35:  Duct Design.  Note that the 2005 ASHRAE Fundamentals Handbook is not provided as part of the purchase price for this course.  It must be obtained separately by the student.  If necessary, this document can be purchased through ASHRAE's online bookstore at:

http://resourcecenter.ashrae.org/store/ashrae/ or by contacting ASHRAE at:

Phone:  404-636-8400  Address:  1791 Tullie Circle, N.E., Atlanta, GA   30329

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
