Duct Sealing With Aerosolized Sealant Particles

Course No. M-2041 Back to HVAC Courses
Credit: 2 PDH
Course Fee: $57.90

Steven G. Liescheidt, P.E., CSI-CCS, CCPR

Overview

Considerable research has been conducted on the leakage levels of various types of ducts and duct fittings. Electricity energy savings potential by eliminating air leakage from ducts in large commercial buildings is on the order of 10 kWh/m2 per year. The research discussed in this paper is based on two large commercial buildings, using a new technology that simultaneously seals duct leaks and measures effective leakage area of ducts.

In this course the student will learn about the importance of duct sealing with respect to saving energy in air delivery systems in commercial buildings. The student will also be made aware that the duct sealing method analyzed in this report is technically viable; however, more work is needed to develop a practical cost effective methodology for this process.

The student is expected to read and review the material contained Duct Sealing in Large Commercial Buildings with Aerosolized Sealant Particles, LBNL - 42414.

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
