Duct Thermal Performance

Course No. M-2045 Back to HVAC Courses
Credit: 2 PDH
Course Fee: $57.90

Steven G. Liescheidt, P.E., CSI-CCS, CCPR

Overview

Despite the potential for significant energy savings by reducing duct leakage or other thermal losses from duct systems in large commercial buildings, California Title 24 has no provisions to credit energy-efficient duct systems in these buildings. The overall goal of the Efficient Distribution Systems (EDS) project within the PIER High Performance Commercial Building Systems Program is to bridge the gaps in current duct thermal performance modeling capabilities, and to expand the understanding of duct thermal performance in California large commercial buildings.

In this course the student will learn about duct thermal performance as evaluated in this report which focuses on large commercial buildings. The course discusses the effects of duct deficiencies, duct performance principles such as air leakage, fan performance and heat transfer. In addition the student will gain an understanding of the California Title 24 Duct Systems Compliance Path.

The student is expected to read and review the material contained in Duct Thermal Performance Models for Large Commercial Buildings, LBNL-53410 October 2003.

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
