Fan Coil Basics - Titus
Steven G. Liescheidt, P.E., CSI-CCS, CCPR.
Overview
Fan coil units are products that have been around
for years; however, there has been a growing interest in the use of these
products for a variety of reasons. Fan coil units can provide zone control of
heating and cooling in a manner that matches the zone load. For fan coil
products, the typical application characteristics are similar to multi-family
residential building. For these structures, heating and cooling load
calculations will differ from commercial applications.
In this course the student will learn some of the
basics about fan coil unit design and applications. In addition, the student
will learn about some basic principles of heat transfer, psychrometrics and room
load calculations that must be understood to properly size and select fan coil
units. The student will also learn about specifiable features and benefits of
fan coil products including control components, coils, filters, casings, housing
design, test standards and more.
The student is expected to read and review the
material contained in the Titus Product Catalog Engineering Guidelines – Fan
Coil Units, as well as the Titus Fan Coils Catalog.
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of
fifteen (15) questions at the end of this course to obtain 2 PDH credits. The
first ten quiz questions will focus on the Engineering Guidelines document (12
pages). The last five questions will require the student to select from
equipment in the Titus Fan Coils Catalog (86 pages) in order to answer the
questions. Note that it is not necessary to review the entire catalog in order
to answer the equipment selection questions in the course quiz.
