HVAC Electrical Considerations
Steven G. Liescheidt, P.E., CSI-CCS, CCPR.
Overview
In
today’s complex building structures it is imperative that the HVAC engineer have
a basic knowledge of all of the other professional disciplines and construction
trades involved in the building design and construction. The mechanical
and electrical systems have great impact on each other from the beginning of the
design all the way into the functionality of the HVAC systems and energy use
that the facility owner has to deal with for the life of the building.
In
this course the student will learn some of the basic electrical considerations
in the building industry that relate to the equipment in the building. These
electrical considerations have an impact on the selection and design of the
building HVAC systems and likewise how the HVAC equipment impacts the electrical
system design for the building.
The
student is expected to read and review the material contained in the
2003 ASHRAE HVAC Applications
Handbook,
Chapter 55 – Electrical
Considerations. Note
that the 2003 ASHRAE
HVAC Applications Handbook is not provided as part of the purchase
price for this course. It must be obtained separately by the student.
If necessary, this document can be purchased through ASHRAE's online bookstore
at

The
student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions at
the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
