Hydraulic Design of Fire Water Sprinkler Systems Containing Typical Branch Lines

Course No. M-2059

Credit: 2 PDH

Course Fee: $57.90 Purchase course

Subject Matter Expert: Mark E. Hasenmyer, P.E.

Overview

This course will teach you step by step how to perform manual hydraulic calculations on a fire sprinkler system with typical branch lines. This information will be useful for fire protection, mechanical or plumbing engineers to gain knowledge of the requirements and procedures outlined in the National Fire Protection Association, Standard No. 13, Installation of Sprinkler Systems.

The example of proceeding through a manual calculation of a simple “tree” system will demonstrate the method that sprinkler contractors use in calculating sprinkler systems with hydraulic programs. The knowledge of the principles contained in this course will allow engineers to design more hydraulically efficient systems or the verify calculations submitted by contractors.

To receive PDH credit for this course, the reader must pass a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Basic sprinkler hydraulics
  • Occupancy classification
  • Densities and remote areas
  • End sprinkler start conditions
