Overview
The duct system, used in air heating and air cooling your home, is a collection of tubes that distributes the heated or cooled air to the various rooms. This system can make a big difference in both the cost and the effectiveness of heating and cooling the home. The duct system can have an important effect on health of the occupants through the distribution of indoor air pollution.
In this course the student will learn some of the basics about residential ductwork supply and return systems. This course addresses both the energy and health impacts of residential duct installations. Retrofitting of existing residential duct systems is possible under the guidance of a professional; however, it is best to properly install the ductwork in new construction so that the system can operate at maximum efficiency from the beginning of the installation.
The student is expected to read and review the material contained in Improving The Efficiency of Your Duct System DOE – Office of Building Technology, State and Community Programs Energy Efficiency And Renewable Energy – DOE Publication DOE/EE0109 – Revised November 1999
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
