Process Piping Part 2 - Metallic Piping Systems
Edward Brown, P.E.
Overview
This 2-hour online course
addresses various types of metallic piping and their properties, corrosion
theory, corrosion prevention, pipe support requirements, thermal stresses, pipe
specifications, material properties, common alloys, and their proper
application. This course is relevant to Civil, Environmental, Sanitary, and
Mechanical Engineers in many industries, including water/wastewater,
manufacturing, chemical, and HVAC. The course includes examples of design
calculations and references to relevant industry standards.
The course materials
consist of The US Army Corps of Engineers Publication EM1110-1-4008, Chapter 4.
The student must take a
multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions at the end of
this course to obtain PDH credits.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Attained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and
skills:
-
Gain familiarity with
metallic piping materials and their properties
-
Understand the proper
application of each material
-
Understand the mechanism
and factors contributing to corrosion, and practical methods for controlling
corrosion
