Overview
This 2-hour online course describes the importance of pipe support design, particularly in the power industry where high pressure and high temperature systems are encountered. The basic theories and principles of pipe stress calculations are discussed, although the course does not go into the detailed calculations, which are generally performed by reiterative computer programs.
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of thirteen (13) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Pipe support design considerations.
- Become familiar with the requirements of the Power Piping Code with respect to pipe stress and support.
- Be knowledgeable in the sequence of pipe support design procedures.
- Recognize the more commonly used pipe supports.
- Know the responsibilities of the design engineer of record with respect to pipe support design.
- Understand that means other than a comprehensive stress analysis may be acceptable
