Overview

This 2-hour online course addresses the role of valves in process piping systems.  The course covers the most common types of valves, their materials, characteristics, specifications, and their appropriate applications.   This course includes information about pressure ratings, chemical compatibility, shutoff service, flow control service, and valve operators.

This course is relevant to Civil, Environmental, Sanitary, and Mechanical Engineers in the water/wastewater, manufacturing, chemical, and HVAC industries. 

The course includes examples of calculations showing the selection of valves for flow control applications, illustrations, and tables of relevant information.

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.

 

Specific Knowledge or Skill Attained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills: 

  • Knowledge of the various types, configurations, and materials of valves that are used in process piping systems.
  • The ability to properly select the appropriate valve for the required service.
  • The ability to select and establish the criteria for flow control valves.
  • An understanding of the industry standards and specifications that exist for process valves.
  • Information on operational requirements, maintenance needs for process valves.
