Smoke Control - Elevator Lobbies

Overview
Smoke control in elevator lobbies is an area that is continuously being
evaluated. This course covers a literature survey was conducted to explore the
need and appropriate systems for protecting elevator lobbies from smoke
migration. The focus is on smoke spread through elevator shafts and lobbies,
building occupant and fire fighter use of elevators during fire emergencies, and
computer software for evaluating elevator performance during fires.
In
this course the student will learn some of the results of various studies and
surveys that have been conducted in the building industry on dealing with smoke
control in elevator lobbies.
The student is expected to read and review the material contained in the
“Literature Review on Enclosure of Elevator Lobbies” – NISTIR 6973, March 2003.
The
student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions at the end of
this course to obtain PDH credits.
