Space Air Diffusion

Course No. M-4015 Back to HVAC Courses
Credit: 4 PDH
Course Fee: $115.80

Steven G. Liescheidt, P.E., CSI-CCS, CCPR

Overview

Air supplied to rooms through the various types of outlets is usually distributed by turbulent air jets, which are the primary factor affecting room air motion. Space air distribution needs to be taken into consideration for both comfort and ventilation effectiveness considerations. Although manufacturers publish performance data that attempts to simplify the air device selection process in terms of terminal velocities, the selection of air devices needs to take into consideration multiple factors to ensure proper design.

In this course, the student will learn about space air diffusion principles and methods, along with theory to practice related to room air diffusion devices. System design considerations are discussed in a manner that will help the student understand the theory of room air diffusion.

The student is expected to read and review the material contained in the ASHRAE Handbook – 2005 Fundamentals, Chapter 33: Space Air Diffusion.

Note that the 2005 ASHRAE Fundamentals Handbook is not provided as part of the purchase price for this course. It must be obtained separately by the student. If necessary, this document can be purchased through ASHRAE's online bookstore at

http://resourcecenter.ashrae.org/store/ashrae/ or by contacting ASHRAE at: (404) 636-8400 Address: 1791 Tullie Circle, N.E., Atlanta, GA 30329

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
