Attention New York Engineers:

This course cannot be taken to fulfill your continuing education requirements in the state of New York since the course does not cover material from one of the core engineering disciplines.  For more information, check the New York State Board Requirements.

Steven G. Liescheidt, P.E., CSI-CCS, CCPR.

Overview

It is imperative that the design professional uses organized methods of keeping track of design elements and cost control for building design and construction.  In addition, it is helpful to track design decisions and cost controls throughout the life of the building from the Planning phase all the way through to the Operations phase including the Programming, Design and Construction phases in between.

In this course the student will learn some of the basic about Uniformat II as it applies to the life cycle of a building.  The student will learn how the Uniformat II system is used for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to, Planning Estimates, Program Performance Specifications, Program Technical Requirements, Program Estimates, Preliminary Project Descriptions, Preliminary Construction Schedules and Cash Flow Projections, Design Phase Estimates, CAD Layering, Cost Risk Analysis, Life-Cycle Cost Analysis, Reporting and Function-Cost Models and Brainstorming.

The student is expected to read and review the material contained in the Uniformat II Elemental Classification for Building Specifications, Cost Estimating and Cost Control, NIST U.S. Department of Commerce – Publication NISTIR 6389

The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions at the end of the course to obtain PDH credits.
