Coal-Fired Steam Plants

Course No. R-4004

Credit: 4 PDH

Course Fee: $115.80 Purchase course

Subject Matter Expert: Lee Layton, P.E.

Overview

Coal fired power plants are an established source of electricity that provides vast quantities of inexpensive, reliable power. Power generation from coal burning produces about 51% of the electricity generated in the U.S. In addition, known coal reserves are expected to last for centuries at the current rates of usage.

This four-hour course is an overview of how coal-fired power plants operate. The course goes into detail about the US coal industry, its history as a fuel source, and gives a detailed look at each of the components in a modern coal-fired steam plant. In addition, some of the environmental concerns with coal-fired steam plants are discussed.

To earn PDH credit, you must pass a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty-five (25) questions.
