Overview
This package has been specially designed by PDHengineer.com to provide 10 PDH at a highly discounted price. And, if you Refer a PE, you can get a FREE 1 PDH Ethics course as well. You could save up to 38% on PDH credits guaranteed to be accepted by your state board.
The package consists of three of our most popular Transportation Engineering courses in one easy-to-complete package that will earn 10 PDH.
Course 1 - Planning for Traffic Signals (3 PDH)
This Traffic Signal Design course addresses basic procedures used in planning traffic signal installations. Included in this course is a discussion of warrants for traffic signal installation, traffic study guidelines, signal phasing selection, and flashing analysis. These study-related tasks should be completed prior to traffic signal design so that a signal installation with the appropriate features for the situation at hand is constructed.
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions at the end of this course to earn PDH credits.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Discuss in detail the nine traffic signal warrants presented in the MUTCD
- Explain the problems associated with the installation of unwarranted traffic signals
- Describe the items that must be addressed in a pre-design traffic engineering study
- Discuss issues surrounding the collection of usable traffic counts
- Discuss procedures for selecting optimum signal phasing
- Explain the circumstances under which flashing operation is used
Course 2 - Introduction to Traffic Signals (3 PDH)
This Traffic Signal Design course provides an introduction to intersection control, with an emphasis on the use of traffic signals. Also included in this course is a discussion of the 2009 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and safety concerns relative to intersection control and traffic signal operation. Each of the 9 parts of the MUTCD are examined as they relate to traffic signal control. Understanding MUTCD requirements is the first-step in developing a traffic signal design that meets current professional standards.
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty (20) questions at the end of this course to earn PDH credits.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Provide a description of the 9 Chapters of the new 2009 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
- Present the four basic goals of traffic signal design
- Discuss the various options for intersection control
- Describe the operation and design features of modern roundabouts
- Examine the six major components of a traffic signal installation
- Discuss MUTCD requirements for traffic signal installations
- Examine issues involved in handling pedestrians at signalized intersections
- Discuss electrical power elements of a traffic signal installation
Course 3 - Traffic Signal Construction (4 PDH)
This course addresses procedures used in the construction of traffic signals. Included in this course is a discussion of engineering plans preparation, bidding, contract administration, construction scheduling, and traffic signal installation procedures. The goal of any traffic signal installation is to provide a quality product that meets the intent of the plans and specifications, and to do so while maintaining both motorist and worker safety.
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty-five (25) questions at the end of this course to obtain PDH credits.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- A typical set of contract documents for traffic signal construction
- How construction cost estimates are prepared
- The bidding process used in traffic signal construction
- Construction bonding requirements
- Bidding and construction issues relative to design-build projects
- Items that are typically addressed at the preconstruction conference
- Utility coordination concerns relative to traffic signal construction projects
- Construction scheduling issues
- Construction procedures for support pole installation
- Construction procedures for conduit and pull box installation
- Construction procedures for controller cabinet installation
- Construction procedures for signal head installation
- Construction procedures for traffic signal grounding and bonding
- Construction procedures for inductance loop installation
- Construction procedures for electrical power service installation
