Overview
Chip Seal has been used in some form on roadways for almost a century and is used worldwide in countries such as the United States, New Zealand, Canada, and South Africa to name a few. The main purpose of chip seal is to seal cracks in pavement and prevent the infiltration of water that can be detrimental to the structure of the paving section. Presently Chip seal is most often used as a preventive maintenance treatment for flexible pavement for low and high volume pavements.
After reading this 5 hour course the student will have valuable knowledge regarding the use of Chip Seal. This course would be useful to engineers working in fields such as roadway design, materials engineering and testing, geotechnical engineering and anyone wishing to gain more knowledge in the use of Chip Seal.
The study materials for this course are based solely on the text “Chip Seal Best Practices” as published by the National Cooperative Research Program of the Transportation Research Board.
The student must take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of twenty-five (25) questions at the end of this course to earn PDH credits.
