Overview

Part 1 - An Introduction to Noise Control in Buildings

This webinar will introduce you to basic principles and terminology for noise control engineering in buildings. You will learn about Noise Criteria (NC) and Room Criteria (RC) curves and how they are used in acoustical engineering projects. Speech Interference Levels (SIL), Sound Pressure Levels (SPL) and Room Constants are also introduced, and you will see how the principles of sound Transmission Loss (TL), Noise Reduction (NR) and Sound Transmission Class (STC) are used in project design. The information you will get from this webinar will allow you to apply basic acoustical engineering principles to a variety of projects, and will give you the background you need to advance to more sophisticated analyses on more demanding acoustical challenges such as those associated with design of concert halls and recording studios.

This webinar provides an introduction to noise control engineering for buildings. It provides engineers and architects with an introduction to acoustical engineering principles, the tools to use in straightforward building design projects, and an introduction to principles that can be used on more acoustically challenging building design projects. This webinar will give engineers and others an understanding of basic principles and terminology needed to integrate acoustical considerations into their building design projects.

Learning Objectives

In this 2-hour webinar, you'll learn ...

  • How noise associated with buildings is defined in terms of Noise Criteria and Room Criteria
  • Designing to mitigate speech interference in the acoustic environment
  • Sound pressure level (SPL) varies with distance and absorption
  • Principles underlying estimation and use of Room Constants
  • Principles of sound Transmission Loss (TL), Noise Reduction (NR) and Sound Transmission Class (STC) of building materials are applied to real projects
  • STC values for many common building materials

Part 2 - An Introduction To Passive Solar Buildings

This webinar is an introduction to passive solar technology to heat buildings. It will tell you about the basic passive systems and climate considerations you need to know about. You will gain knowledge about guidelines for schematic design of passive solar buildings. You will learn the foundation you need to move forward with passive solar design as an integral part of your building design skills. And you will gain knowledge about basic passive solar heating systems for buildings including direct gain heating, daylighting, radiant panels, thermosiphoning air panels, thermal storage walls, sunspaces, and incremental cooling load. This seminar will cover climatic considerations including characteristic weather parameters, climate-driven conservation measures, and solar availability. Guidelines for schematic design of passive solar building heating systems will be discussed including building shape and orientation, non-south windows, passive heating system characteristics, sizing overhangs, insulation levels, infiltration, solar collection areas, and thermal storage mass.

Passive solar energy is one of the most efficient forms of energy in the world. Not only does it reduce the cost of energy for your company, agency or clients, it reduces the demand on limited global energy supplies and avoids carbon emissions and other global environmental impacts associated with energy production and utilization. Participants will learn about the basic systems and building features that can be used to passively heat buildings using solar energy. You will learn how to evaluate climate and solar availability to determine feasibility of cost-effective passive solar systems at specific project sites. And you will gain knowledge of guidelines to use in preparing feasibility studies for passive solar projects.

Learning Objectives

In this 2-hour webinar, you'll learn ...

  • Direct gain heating systems
  • Radiant panel systems
  • Thermosiphoning air panel systems
  • Thermal storage walls
  • Sunspaces
  • Characteristic weather parameters
  • Climate and conservation measures
  • Solar availability
  • Guidelines for schematic design

Site License for Groups

Webinars are priced per person as shown above. But, if you have a group of six or more attending from one location, you can take advantage of our webinar site license. With a site license, up to 15 can attend from the same location for a flat rate of $350 per hour. For groups larger than 15 people, call 1-877-PDHengineer to speak with a Customer Service Team member.

A site license makes it easy for a company, an association, or a group of colleagues to access high-quality training at a low cost per person. You are responsible for providing a meeting room, speakerphone and internet connection. A signed attendance sheet is required from each group. More on site licenses...

How Webinars Work

It's easy ... and it doesn't take a computer guru to figure it out. At the time of the webinar, you connect to the internet and call in to a toll-free number. You see the presentation on your computer screen. You hear and talk through the telephone. It's just like being there without all the hassle. There's no travel expense and no wasted time in the car.

System Requirements

To attend this webinar, you'll need a computer with a high-speed internet connection (DSL or cable) and a phone line. For your comfort, it is recommended that you use a speakerphone or headset to connect to the webinar. Our system will support both PC's and Apple computers using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or Safari browsers. If you select a site license, you must provide projection of the internet onto a viewing screen or have a monitor large enough for the group to see.

Registration Deadline

Online registration is available until the scheduled start of the webinar (subject to seat availability). However, we suggest that you register early as webinars fill up quickly. For questions, call our Customer Service Team toll-free at 1-877-PDHengineer.
