A M Y (Zak) Razak, M.Sc., Ph.D.

A M Y "Zak" Razak, M.Sc., PhD, has been involved for over 25 years in developing software for engineering applications, including the development and application of mathematical models.

During the last 15 years, he has worked in the oil and gas industry, where he has developed and applied performance monitoring systems for gas turbines and process gas compressors, using gas path analysis techniques. This work resulted in the formulation of a gas management system to optimize production of gas compression platforms.

He has applied these techniques to investigate the operability of many oil and gas production platforms, under steady state and dynamic operating conditions.

His current interests are in developing Advanced Path Analysis Techniques, Model Based Control System, Plant Optimization Techniques, Virtual Engines for Education and Training, and Novel Gas Turbine Cycles.

He has authored many papers on performance monitoring and was awarded the Akroyd Stuart Memorial Prize for his paper on Gas Turbine and Process Compressor Performance Monitoring by the Institute of Diesel and Gas Turbine Engineers in 1995. He is also the author of "Industrial Gas Turbines: Performance and Operability."

Dr. Razak graduated from Cranfield University in the UK in 1980 and was awarded his PhD in Mathematical Modeling of Transients in Compressors in 1985 also from Cranfield University. He is currently director of Gas Path Analysis Ltd. and is a member of ASME.
