Yun Zhou, P.E., PhD

Yun Zhou, P.E., PhD, is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in geotechnical engineering and of Carnegie Mellon University with MSIT degree in information technology management. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Pennsylvania. Dr. Zhou is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers.

Dr. Zhou has over 25 years of hands-on experience in a wide spectrum of geotechnical engineering applications, including geotechnical field and laboratory investigations, site characterization and design parameter selection, design analysis and design detailing, design implementation through drawings, specifications, and plans, and construction engineering support. Currently, Dr. Zhou is a geotechnical specialist to provide leadership and expert technical support to a Dow Jones 30 company’s billion-dollar mega-projects involving building foundations, highways and railways, ports, and waste containment facilities.

Dr. Zhou published over 18 technical papers and often presented those papers in international and national conferences. He appeared twice in court as an expert witness for lawsuits involving landfill design and slope stability. Dr. Zhou has developed and taught graduate-level slope stability courses. He has been tutoring junior engineers through a monthly technical presentation and developed several continuing education courses in soil and rock mechanics for professional engineers learning geotechnical designs.
