If you work with HVAC systems and applications, this course was designed with you in mind.

One of the intentions of this course is to provide powerful tools that can facilitate and simplify the theory and work in the area of HVAC. The course includes some theory about air and how to estimate its properties and characteristics (relative humidity, enthalpy, dew point, etc). The theory of psychrometrics can be tedious and hard to apply to practical cases. This course is designed to address these issues by providing the theory needed and how to use the theory in very practical ways to visualize the impact of air conditions in an HVAC system.

This course is designed to be a continuation to the previous course "PSYCHOMETRICS AND ITS USE IN HVAC". The previous course covered most of the theory that is needed to solve typical HVAC applications. However, some of the topics from the previous course are covered again in this course to make sure that the student can follow the course with minimum problems. The material of this course is more advanced, and should be a good refresher course for a Mechanical Engineer. The discussion of the theory is directed more towards practical application of HVAC.

In this course, you will learn how to represent a particular process on to the psychrometric chart and measure the air properties from the chart directly or by using the excel tools provided.

The purchase of this course will include an Excel file that you can use to enter initial conditions and to solve for the specific applications. The applications included in this Excel file are the following:

The modules developed in the spreadsheet and provided with the course are designed to be self-contained. What this means is that if you copy the whole module as illustrated by its own color, you can paste it somewhere else and use it as many times as you want (as a stand-alone or as a combination of modules).

This course covers theory and practical uses of the theory. A graphical representation of the topic is generally accompanied by the use of the psychrometric chart. After the theory is covered and explained in the course, some models (modules) are created for the student to use either individually or collectively as modules that can connect to calculate solutions to significantly more complex problems.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Definitions and calculations for relative humidity, humidity ratio, dew point temperature, and wet bulb temperature
  • The concept of enthalpy potential
  • Process for the adiabatic mixing of two streams of moist air
  • Process for heating and cooling without a change in specific humidity
  • Process for cooling coils
  • Process for cooling with change in specific humidity using by-pass method
  • Process for space and absorption of heat and generation of moisture

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 25 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
