4 Easy Steps to Complete a PDHengineer webinar

In our daily work as engineers, it isn’t always sufficient to be knowledgeable in our own field of expertise. We are often expected to understand the essential principles or sciences behind other engineering disciplines and specializations. With that in mind, this webinar provides a clear demonstration of basic electrical principles for non-electrical engineers. Having a firm grasp of these fundamentals will not only help you understand the basic theory of AC/DC circuits, but it will also increase your versatility and help you communicate better with engineers in other disciplines.

We will begin with a look at the simplest of DC or battery circuits, and then we will discuss the concepts of voltage, current, and power. We will also examine the relationship between resistors and electrical power, and study how current flowing through resistors generates heat—or, perhaps more precisely, how electrical energy is turned into heat energy. This process takes place in a number of electrical appliances, such as space heaters and water heaters.

In the AC portion of the webinar, we will first give our attention to the fundamentals of AC circuits. Then we will observe how, instead of working with pure resistances, alternating current faces impedance or (imaginary) reactance caused by inductance and capacitance. Numerous pictures and graphs used in this presentation will help show how these aspects of alternating current work. As a result, you will come to understand most of the electrical concepts used in the industrial world. There is no doubt that AC circuit theory can cause engineers a lot of difficulty; however, this webinar will make it easy to see and understand.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Fundamentals of DC circuits: voltage, current, resistors, and power (series, parallel, series-parallel combination)
  • Electrical laws: Ohm’s Law, Kirchoff's Voltage Law, Kirchoff's Current Law
  • Fundamentals of AC circuits
  • AC capacitive circuits
  • AC inductive circuits
  • RC, RL, and LC parallel circuits
  • Power factor

PDH Credits

Webinars earn PDH credits for engineers in all states, unless otherwise stated in the literature for a specific webinar. PDHengineer.com, a service mark of Decatur Professional Development, LLC, is an approved provider of continuing education for engineers. For more details, check your state requirements.

ATTENTION NEW YORK, WISCONSIN AND IOWA ENGINEERS: Your states specifically require a certain number of "live" credit hours as a part of your PDH requirement. Webinars from PDHengineer.com have been accepted by the New York State Board to fulfill this requirement. PDHengineer’s webinars also meet all requirements of the Wisconsin and Iowa Boards. This webinar is guaranteed to be accepted by your state board as live engineering PDH.

ATTENTION OHIO ENGINEERS: PDHengineer's webinars are "Timed and Monitored" to meet your state requirements. This means that you can use our webinars to fulfill your entire PDH requirement for Ohio. This webinar is guaranteed to be accepted by your state board as "timed and monitored" CPD credit.

In fact, all of our webinars are designed to be accepted in New York, Wisconsin, Ohio, Iowa, and all other states. The PDHengineer Triple Guarantee is your assurance of state board acceptance.
