Wind is the flow of gases on a large scale. On the surface of the Earth, wind consists of the bulk movement of air caused by differences in atmospheric pressure. Wind can be beneficial, such as the source of power for a sailboat or a wind turbine. But, wind can also be destructive. The high winds associated with a tropical storm, hurricane or a tornado can inflict serious damage on buildings, bridges and other structures.
This seminar introduces fundamental and advanced concepts of wind engineering and is designed for engineers and other professionals that have little or no experience with the design and analysis of structures for wind loads. In this seminar, you’ll learn about the nature of wind, particularly high winds associated with a major storm, and how it interacts with structures.
You’ll also learn how to calculate the wind forces on a structure using the latest version of ASCE/SEI 7-2010, Minimum Design Loads For Buildings and Other Structures. The minimum wind design loads and design formulae used in this seminar are presented in a simplified format, making it easy to follow and apply.
