A focus on the dynamics of the workplace and working can help to foster healthy relationships to increase likelihood of success. Conflict resolution can be viewed as an integral component of most business ventures and workplace interactions both domestic and international. The advent of communication both verbal and nonverbal is a behavior that most if not all humans engage in through the course of their lives and this can be taken for granted. It is through the loss of this unique skill that conflicts or discourse can arise and escalate. This is where assertive communication can come into place to improve the type and level of exchange among the involved parties.

Assertive communication is considered to be the expression of feelings, preferences, and opinions in a specific and clear manner that is respectful to the rights and opinions of others. When two parties find themselves at a crossroads as a result of a disagreement conflicts this can jeopardize the success of not only the individual but possibly the organization that they work for. The ability to effectively engage in assertive communication can bring the viewpoints and concerns of both parties to the table and strive to work towards a resolution that meets the standards of those involved. Assertive communication and behavior is considered to be an effective method for solving interpersonal and professional problems.

For any individual within the workplace or engaged in a business venture who finds themselves in a conflict the goal is to identify the presenting problem and work to solve the problem to achieve maximum results. The negative impact of a conflict can be curtails with the use of assertive communication skills that provide a direct approach for all thoughts and feelings to be expressed in a controlled setting.
