The purpose of this course is to familiarize the engineer with the earthquake risk to schools and the processes and methods that can be used to reduce it. Knowing these risks along with determining the earthquake threat to a specific location can help determine the building’s vulnerability in the event of an earthquake. Although the course focuses on schools, it is applicable to most commercial buildings.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • The nature and probability of earthquakes
  • Vulnerability: what earthquakes can do to schools
  • Scope, effectiveness and limitations of building codes
  • Evaluating existing schools for seismic risk and specific risk reduction methods
  • Earthquake risk reduction methods for new and existing schools

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 15 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
