Construction Estimating Using Excel This course is of particular interest anybody involved with construction. Very little knowledge of Excel is needed. This course covers many different spreadsheets needed to do a quantity take-off on many different construction materials:

  • Concrete
  • Earthwork
  • Finishes
  • Masonry
  • Metals
  • Openings
  • Paving
  • Thermal & Moisture Protection
  • Wood

The take-off is performed using many different units:

  • Cubic feet, cf, ft3, cu ft
  • Cubic yards, cu yd, yd3
  • Feet, ft
  • Square feet, sf, ft2, sq ft
  • Tons
  • Pounds, lbs, #
  • Linear feet, lf
  • Square, sq
  • Foot board measure, fbm
  • Gallons, gal

We will use only a few commands, like border and fill color. We will use only a few built-in functions like SUM and PRODUCT. I have included an installation program that will install all the files covered in the course plus some additional blank forms.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • How to use built-in functions, SUM and PRODUCT in Excel
  • Know the order of precedence of arithmetic operators
  • How to apply a border and fill color to a cell
  • Become familiar with different construction material
  • Become familiar with different types of units that are used in construction: Cubic feet, Cubic yards, Feet, Square feet, Tons, Pounds, Linear feet, Square, Foot board measure and Gallons
  • Know how to convert some units, like cubic feet to cubic yards
  • Become familiar with the Master Format by CSI
  • Know how to specify a range of adjacent or non-adjacent cells in Excel

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 10 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
