Overview

In Water Pollution and Control, you'll learn ...

  • Water pollutants and their sources
  • Effect of oxygen-demanding wastes on rivers
  • Effects of nutrients on water quality in rivers

Overview

A PDHengineer webinar is just like being there.

4 Easy Steps to Complete a PDHengineer webinar

This webinar provides a broad overview of water pollutants and their sources beginning with definition of basic terms and progressing to more advanced material meant to help assess the extent of water pollution. Specific subjects covered in the presentation will include water pollutants and their sources, water pollution in rivers, total maximum daily load (TMDL), and the effect of oxygen-demanding wastes on rivers.

Also covered in the webinar are subjects such as biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and graphical determination of BOD constants, laboratory measurement of BOD, dissolved oxygen (DO), sag curve, and the effects of nutrients on water quality in rivers.

In our discussion, we will define TMDL, BOD, COD, and DO and explain the effect of oxygen demanding wastes in water pollution. We will learn how to determine BOD5 in the laboratory, BOD reaction rate, k with graphical method. We will also derive BOD model and DO sag curve equations using first-order kinetics and solve several problems to understand the extent of water pollution.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Identification of water pollutants and their sources
  • Definitions of TMDL, BOD, and COD
  • Modeling BOD and calculating BOD5 and BODu
  • Determination of BOD rate constants graphically
  • Development of DO Sag Curve (Model)
  • Explanation of the effects of nutrients on water quality in rivers

PDH Credits

Webinars earn PDH credits for engineers in all jurisdictions, unless otherwise stated in the literature for a specific webinar, and are accepted as "live" courses by engineering boards with a requirement for "live" training.
