This course provides an introduction to the concept of "green chemical engineering" through the eyes of an experienced engineer. The author uses situations from his vast experience to illustrate the advantages and pitfalls of green engineering.

A unique, grassroots approach is suggested by the author to provide the backdrop for the course: "If you do not make a mess, you won't have to clean it up and therefore you will improve your relationship to the whole of the ecological surroundings and save material, save time, improve efficiency, and of course support any of the other ideals of ecological responsibility."

Tips are provided for performing an engineer's job in an ecologically responsible manner; and the author shares some of the ideas that he and his colleagues have used on previous projects.

This course is provided in two forms for your convenience. The course may be studied as a "podcast" or audio presentation. The included audio files can be downloaded to your iPod or other personal mp3 player or they can be streamed using your computer’s default audio player (such as Windows Media Player). A written transcription is also provided should you wish to read the material.
