The renewal deadline for Florida-licensed PEs is February 28. There are several important changes to the continuing education requirements in this renewal cycle.
1 – You must earn 18 PDH for renewal
The number of PDH required has been increased from 8 to 18. This brings the number of required PDH more in line with the national average, but it does create issues for PEs who might be trying to complete the PDH requirement at the last minute. If you have not yet earned all 18 hours, it’s important to begin as soon as possible in order to meet the deadline.
2 – The required Laws and Rules course is now 1 PDH
Previously, a 4 PDH Laws and Rules course had been required. Beginning with this renewal cycle, the requirement is a 1 PDH course that has been approved by the Florida Board. PDHengineer’s course, Laws and Rules for Florida Engineers (Renewal Cycle 2015-2017), is Florida Approved Course #0010040.
3 – Professional Ethics course is now required
Florida requires a 1 PDH board-approved ethics course to meet this requirement. PDHengineer’s Professional Ethics for Florida Engineers (Renewal Cycle 2015-2017) is Florida Approved Course #0010010. It is important to remember that other ethics courses will not be accepted to meet this requirement. Although other ethics courses can be used to meet the general “area of practice” requirement, only the approved ethics course will meet the Board’s ethics requirement.
