Jack Schmitt, P.E.

Jack Schmitt, P.E., began his engineering experience in the U.S. Army, serving from 1967- 1970 as an artillery surveyor, providing coordinate and elevation control at the division artillery level. He served in Germany, state-side and in Vietnam. He received a BS CE from IIT in 1973 and a Masters in Engineering Management from Midwest College of Engineering (now IIT) in 1982. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois and Indiana. He served as Quality Manager on several construction projects for the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority. He founded Red Pencil, Limited in 2005 to provide plan review services as a service-disabled veteran-owned business.

As a member of the faculty of Midwest College of Engineering he developed courses on pavement design, highway geometrics and mass transit. He has served for 25 years as an instructor for a variety of topics as a member of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers Review Series, a refresher course for candidates taking the state licensing exam. He was inducted into the ISPE Order of the Engineer in 2004. He is a certified Associate Value Specialist and a member of S.A.V.E.

Mr. Schmitt is a contributor of exam problems for NCEES, the author of a children’s book, "Toby and the Princess" and has written "Plans, Special Provisions and Contract Plan Reviews", a text on the preparation and review of contract documents for infrastructure projects released by E-BookTime in February, 2007.
