Virginia Professional Engineers

Continuing Education (PDH) Requirements

Virginia has recently instituted continuing education requirements for Professional Engineers. Engineers who renew or reinstate their licenses after March 31, 2010 will be required to meet the new PDH requirements.PDHengineer has an Iron-Clad Money-Back Guarantee

The law provides than PEs must complete 16 PDH in the two years immediately preceding their license renewal. PDHengineer's online courses and webinars are both acceptable for Virginia continuing education.

The Board has set forth specific requirements for continuing education activity. PDHengineer's courses and webinars meet these requirements and are guaranteed to be accepted by the Board.  State regulations say that PDH activity must meet the following criteria:

  • Content and subject matter: Continuing education activities must be related to practice of the profession of the license being renewed, have a clear purpose and objective that will maintain, improve, or expand the skills and knowledge relevant to the licensee's area of practice as defined in Chapter 4 (§ 54.1-400 et seq.) of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia. The required continuing education credit hours may be in areas related to business practices, including project management, risk management, and ethics, which have demonstrated relevance to the licensee's area of practice as defined in Chapter 4 of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia.
  • Curriculum: The curriculum of the continuing education activity must be consistent with the purpose and objective of the continuing education activity.
  • Sponsors and instructors: Sponsors of continuing education activities must have sufficient resources to provide the continuing education activity and documentation of completion of the continuing education activity to those individuals who successfully complete the continuing education activity. Course instructors must be competent in the subject being taught, either by education or experience.
  • Self-directed continuing education activity: There must be an assessment by the sponsor at the conclusion of the activity to verify that the individual has achieved the purpose and objective of the continuing education activity; credit will not be awarded if the individual has not successfully achieved the purpose and objective of the continuing education activity based upon the results of the assessment.

PDHengineer's new course Laws, Rules and Ethics for Virginia Engineers (Revised for 2010) is specifically written for Virginia Engineers. The course discusses applicable Virginia Engineering laws as well as the Standard of Practice and Conduct for Virginia Engineers. This course is a practical review of the laws and ethical concerns you face every day. We think you'll consider this 3 PDH course a "must have" for meeting Virginia's new continuing education requirements.

In our online course catalog, you will find courses that meet the board's requirement covering all major areas of engineering practice. We offer a wide variety of subjects including today's hottest engineering topics. Our web based seminars give you the opportunity to attend a live interactive seminar without leaving your home or office.
